Cathy Erway needed an interesting subject for the food blog she was considering beginning. She decided to give up eating out, though that would be difficult for a young twenty-something in New York City, and begin cooking her meals at home. What began as an interesting experiment became something of an obsession. As Cathy's blog, Not Eating Out In New York, grew in popularity, she threw herself into the project with an increasing passion that lasted two years. My review is at Meanwhile, Back in the Kitchen.

Hmm, with all the great restaurants in NYC she sure has decided to deny herself some good cousine. She's got a nice blog layout, but i'm not sure her recipes are for me. Too trendy. Too environmentally conscious. Somehow I don't get the feeling she's going to serve a great top sirloin, medium cooked, with a baked patato with lots of sour cream. :)
ReplyDeleteThe book has some much better looking recipes, frankly, than those I saw on her blog. Chinese food, bread, and suchlike.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is that she was eating out exclusively and never cooking ... so for her entire independent life she was only sampling restaurant food except when someone else cooked for her. That was the point.
