Catholic Throwdown: Jack White (White Stripes) and Stephen Colbert

It's for reals, people. You'll laugh but also learn because these guys aren't kidding around.

Well, they are kidding around but they are quizzing each other Catholic culture mercilessly to see who can't answer.

If swearing bothers you, then skip this, but it actually made me laugh. These guys were into it.

  1. I was thoroughly amused, but I was also amazed by how much these guys got wrong/didn't know: A thurible is the censer used in liturgies. And Colbert didn't know what a monstrance is? I sure hope his young children and his CCD students (second graders, I think) don't imitate his, uhm...name calling in this video.

  4. I love this!!! My Catholic-school educated children thought it was the most amazing thing ever ... and caught some of mistakes! Especially since we have been at ST. ANNE's for the last 20 years.

  5. We need more regular Catholics to be out there identifying with their faith and celebrating it.

  7. Hilarious! I'll have to look into Jack White's music more. Very enjoyable, though I could have done without the taking God's name in vain.

  8. Seriously? These were NOT tough questions.... I was very disappointed, was looking for some back and forth "toughies." For instance, does not EVERYONE who goes to church for the Feast of the Assumption, Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and Feast of the Ascension (um, on a SUNDAY?) get the spiel each year on "Mary's assumed, Jesus ascends" and "That's Mary here guys" like those of us attending don't hopefully have a handle on that? Sorry, but I was really hoping for a last bit of wittiness before bedtime, because whatever else I thought about his show, I usually thought his stuff was intelligent and sharp, and I have tried to keep an open mind as to how seriously he takes his faith, but instead I was dismayed by how cute they seemed to think not knowing these things was - and that G.D. is just a wee bit beyond cursing, especially WHILE discussing your church? I guess I just don't "get" the humor here. Haha, I don't know much?
