In some ways Riddle of the Sands reminds me of another book I read earlier this year called The Czar's Spy by William Le Queux which was written in 1905. I guess this is an even earlier spy novel where a man gets caught up in international intrigue - fairly enjoyable and available also on Librivox I believe.
Maybe what I find familiar is the pre-World War world views.

In fact, I have that in my "to listen" queue for LibriVox. Interesting ... I like those preWWI views though. They make such entertaining stories.
