I was speaking of the near-adoration some give to Mr. O'Brien; Happy Catholic's review was refreshing fair and balanced. This is the first reasonable review of Michael O'Brien I've read; the near-hagiography is off-putting, and, really, that's not fair to Mr. O'Brien.

-- Mack HallAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6881054.post-15642003073044163972012-01-05T19:10:22.939-06:002012-01-05T19:10:22.939-06:00I saw this book too and was considering it. So given some of these reviews, I will not attempt this.Mannyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15396201693030286919noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6881054.post-75042621343008343152012-01-05T13:42:40.850-06:002012-01-05T13:42:40.850-06:00This is what I think of Michael O'Brien's ...This is what I think of Michael O'Brien's books as well. I like the stories. I like how he thinks about things. But I think he needs an editor who will stand up to him a little more. Who will make cuts - not to make the book 277 pages, but maybe to make it 677 pages.

But I have a good friend who so loves his stuff that she maintains that "not one word" could be cut.

I'm always of two minds about him.Terryhttp://mamat.stblogs.orgnoreply@blogger.com
