Immaculate Conception Novena: Day 2

Mary and Jesus (Chinese)
via Matt Stone's Global Christianity

HOUSE OF GOLD
Before God made known his coming into the world in the fullness of time, He prepared Mary as the suitable creature within whom He would dwell for nine months, from the moment of his Incarnation until his birth in Bethlehem. Evidence of God's power and love show forth in his creation. Mary is the House of Gold, the new Temple of God, and is adorned with so great a beauty that no greater perfection is possible. The grace of her Immaculate Conception, including all the graces and gifts God has bestowed on her soul, are directed towards the fulfillment of her divine maternity.
Here is the novena for the second day.
PRAYER TO THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION

O God, who by the Immaculate Conception
of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
did prepare a worthy dwelling place for Your Son,
we beseech You that, as by the foreseen death of this, Your Son, You did preserve Her from all stain,
so too You would permit us, purified through Her intercession, to come unto You.
Through the same Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, world without end.

Amen.

Day Two

O Mary, ever blessed Virgin, Mother of God, Queen of angels and of saints, we salute you with the most profound veneration and filial devotion as we contemplate your holy Immaculate Conception, We thank you for your maternal protection and for the many blessings that we have received through your wondrous mercy and most powerful intercession. In all our necessities we have recourse to you with unbounded confidence. O Mother of Mercy, we beseech you now to hear our prayer and to obtain for us of your Divine Son the favor that we so earnestly request in this novena...

(State your intention here...)

O Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Mother of Christ, you had influence with your Divine Son while upon this earth; you have the same influence now in heaven. Pray for us and obtain for us from him the granting of my petition if it be the Divine Will.
Amen.

Amen.

Julie, I *love* this Chinese Madonna and Child; thanks for posting it.

I'm in the middle of my first ever 54 day novena(so I'm not doing the Immaculate Conception one). It's been a very interesting, even amazing experience so far.

I don't have a strong devotion to Mary to begin with, and I've never been particularly attracted to the rosary, as I cannot meditate on the Mysteries. But, despite all of these crippling hurdles, I've received spiritual benefits that I never could have imagined -- and it's only day 24.

  2. I, personally, could never stick with something like a 54 day novena.

Like you, I also don't have a strong devotion to Mary although I do actually enjoy saying a decade here and there of the rosary. I like meditating on the mysteries, especially the Luminous ones (which I must admit I had made up for myself ... somewhat ... before JPII formally instituted them).

But I especially love seeing how different cultures interpret Mary and Jesus to fit into their styles of art. This seemed like a good time to indulge that interest. :-)

Honestly, Julie, I would have never believed that I could stick with it either. I'm stunned that I've made it this far.

I've always found the rosary very, very arduous, but this long novena has actually been easy (so far).

Since starting the novena, I've been waking up automatically every morning at 0530; I make a cup of tea and say the rosary before the day gets started. It really is miraculous how smoothly this is going, considering what a difficult time I've always had before.

It's really moving me in a manner that I never expected.

PS: I share your love of how other cultures depict Mary and Jesus. It's like seeing them for the first time -- it gives me a hit of joy.
