Pope Francis at the Hotel

Dolan is still sleeping? Please give me a key to his room and a bucket of ice water.

Scott Danielson topped our email caption exchange with this one. It still makes me laugh.

Of course, by now most know that Pope Francis insisted on paying his bill and picking up his luggage yesterday.

Also, is anyone else having to stop themselves from saying "St. Francis" instead of "Pope Francis" ... it just rolls off the tongue. Guess I'll get used to it soon enough.

  1. Even though some folks are ragging on him for his perverted idea of social-justice (and these are Catholics mind) and paying his bills as a ruse to put lull the faithful to sleep and beguile the not faithful and his riding the bus to dishonour the Petrine Office (no, not I read this, I am not making it up) for his "dumping in a few hours" the "eight years" of rebuilding tradition by his predecessor (all because he kept his old iron cross from when he was a bishop and eschew the mozzetta and did away with the full on pomp and circumstance at his firs mass and said the homily not in Latin but the vernacular of his bishopric) I say, Go Francis! God bless you, keep you, protect you and enable you to guide this crazy barque.

You're right, I should have made this a post of my own and not a comment here. Well, maybe I will.

    1. I've been ignoring all commentary actually. I prefer to just read the Pope's homilies and see what he does. All those other comments simply reflect the mindset of the people making them at this point, whether positive or negative. :-)

Also, it is too soon to begin judging. I recall how it was with Pope Benedict. Everyone was in love or out to get him. And the worst fears never came true. So ... based on past experience, I'll just wait and see.

    2. It is too soon to begin judging, either way, any way. I have to say I feel generally very positive. It seems even when one expresses that, which is far less than saying he's a saint for even that he's the pope's pajamas there is someone ready to dive in and point out the kind of rot I note above.

I agree Julie that it's too early and that there was all manner silliness right after Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI was elected. He was our "first" pope so I recall it all too well. I've been trying to ignore the nonsense. I've even written several posts and then hit "trash".

  2. I'm pretty darned joyous right now. All I know is that this pontificate is going to be something different, and I'm looking forward to watching it unfold.

And I'm also avoiding most of the folks who are trying to tell me what to think about everything. It's so soon! Like Julie suggested, I'll be going to the source. I'll read his homilies and audiences myself.

    Joy!

    1. Maybe, if we explain the name of the hotel is embossed on them maybe he'll play nice and return the towels he's wearing.

  7. Yes, I am having a hard time not calling him St. Francis. I love Bl. John Paul II, and I love out new Pope Francis.

  8. "No, I didn't drink that $35 bottle of Tahitian All-Natural Organic Spring Water out of the little refrigerator."

The Bishops of Rome are proof indeed that God loves us. Joy indeed!
