Worth a Thousand Words: Ballet Dancers on the Stage

Ballet Dancers on the Stage (1883). Edgar Degas (French, 1834–1917).
Pastel on paper. Dallas Museum of Art.

I like the angle from which we view the dancers and the way the colors seem to glow with light. I had no idea this was at the Dallas Museum. Which is a sign that I probably should stop in there occasionally.

  1. I'm lucky to live within a bus ride of the Norton Simon museum in Pasadena; they have rooms of Degas. If you can see his stuff in person, I highly recommend it. His subtlety of color, line, and pose is not easily captured in reproductions.
