Worth a Thousand Words: Le Buffon Choisi

BibliOdyssey, where there are many more delightful images displayed, says these pictures are from:
A children's humorous zoology book, loosely modelled after the 18th century scientific works of Buffon, one of the leading figures of the French Enlightenment.
These were illustrations, obviously tongue-in-cheek, to introduce a major scientific encyclopedia to children. The subtitle: Man's Superiority to the Animals, gives the humorous context for the picture above. In fact, there are several I saw that are definitely making the point that man is not as superior as he may think.

I am especially enjoying the link to where you may page through the entire book. I just wish it were in English. However, the pictures are priceless.
