Andrew Jones, East 7th Street Railings, 2008
(242 East 7th Street, ca. 1841)
(242 East 7th Street, ca. 1841)
Unprotected by any landmarks designation, a wonderful row of early 1840s townhouse with outstanding matching stoops still stand on East 7th Street between Avenue C and D. The East Village once had scores of fine homes, before the march of the tenement buildings spelled their doom. These stoops on East 7th Street have elaborate wrought iron scrollwork at the top landing of the stoop. This feature appears primarily on Manhattan’s East side.I discovered Andrew Jones via lines and colors. I was so pleased when Mr. Jones gave permission to share his work here. Do go check out his online gallery and be sure to look at his paintings in full screen size. They are simply riveting.
