How could people do this?

The Deacon's Bench tells about the shocking practice of aborting one twin. I am not kidding when I say that I am struggling to keep from crying right now.

How could you look at your child for his or her entire life, knowing that you deliberately killed their twin? That but for the choice before birth, you would have murdered that very person who you love so much?

It absolutely breaks my heart.
Can a mother forget her infant,
be without tenderness for the child of her womb?

Even should she forget,
I will never forget you.

Isaiah 49:15
Our nation has so much innocent blood on its hands. God help us.

  1. Julie I've been reading your blog forever but never commented. Weird!

I read this article last week and was beyond horrified by it. I don't know how ANYONE, regardless of politics, could read that article and think anything other than that what they are doing is completely heinous. Thanks for pointing it out. The more attention on this atrocious practice the better.

  3. Yes, indeed, God help us. I personally think that there will be hell to pay.

  4. And when you, the surviving twin, realize it was a 50-50 shot whether you were the one aborted, that your twin died only because she was further toward the front than you were, or she was below you, or the sonographer just decided that was the one to go...do you wonder if the other one should have survived? When you screw up, do you wonder whether your parents wish they'd kept the other one and gotten rid of you?

  5. Artificial contraception enables abortion, and abortion enables everything else.

  6. My grandmother had twins at 42. She already had five children. My mom and her older sister - the two oldest - each got a twin to be in charge of. If my grandmother, who didn't go past 8th grade and lived a rather tough life on a farm without indoor plumbing, could raise 7 kids, so could the woman in the story.

  7. This makes me sad that someone who spends so much effort (money, injections, hospital visit) creating these children would abort one for convenience. Those who choose IVF know that multiples are a higher possibility and are choosing to take that risk.

  8. devastating to read, horrified to even think of! Thank you for posting if even to just share the evil that these acts are. God help us all, to stop such actions and for those who do make these decisions.

  9. On a very popular and well-known message board (populated mostly by women, geared toward newylweds) this very subject showed up in a thread on the "politics" board. The response was overwhelmingly, "Well, it's a woman choice to do this!" It was beyond sickening.

And, as Jane and Theocoid pointed out, imagine what the children who survive this horror will think when they learn that their mothers not only murdered their twin sibling - their flesh and blood - but that it could have easily been them dead instead.

Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.

  10. I saw this at Deacon's too. It's horrible, but then isn't any abortion? The are all horrible.

May God have mercy on us.

  12. I stopped reading a certain "women's" magazine because of one such story. Basically twins were an inconvenience and would challenge the couple's lifestyle. The husband really pushed for a selective abortion. My first reaction was that is was horrific, then that this was a marriage in real trouble that I doubt would survive very long and thirdly, as mentioned above, what would happen when the surviving twin found out that his or her parents had killed their brotheror sister?

When and where does it end?
