Worth a Thousand Words: The Poet's Garden

The Poet's Garden
Painting by Vincent van Gogh, 1888
Art Institute of Chicago
It is hard to relate the absolute shock I received last week upon entering the gallery where this painting is displayed. For as long as I can remember, my parents had this painting hanging in their living room. When my mother was selecting what to take with her when she was moving to assisted living she said that it had somehow gotten moldy and had to be thrown out.

Needless to say, it was a painted reproduction of the original van Gogh, but I had no idea that it was a reproduction of anything. I always loved it and just thought it was an original painting they'd picked up somewhere.

So when I rounded that corner and my eyes fell on it, I was dumbfounded. A piece of my personal, family history ... there on display. No wonder I loved that painting. I feel lucky to have had it around to enjoy all those years.

Did you get some tequila later, after you saw the painting? (cf: your lagniappe entry)

PS: horoscope is hilarious, as usual

I knew you'd make the connection between the Lagniappe and the vacation and ... this. :-D

To be sure we did imbibe but not being fans of tequila we stuck to rum and gin ... roughing in our room with the supplies we brought. There is so much that can be done with limes/lemons, Cointreau and either gin or rum. Delicious things.

I wondered if you'd like that horoscope ... cracked me up, naturally. :-)
