Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he has been robbed.
The fact is that most putts don’t drop, most beef is tough, most children grow up to be just people, most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration, and most jobs are more often dull than otherwise…
Life is like an old-time rail journey — delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride.

Well Said: Imagining Bliss is Normal

3 brave one(s) among us:
I'm really blessed. Although it has certainly not all been blissful, my life has rarely - if ever - been dull.
Definitely well said. I've recently been thinking a lot about how we are not guaranteed a blissful, pleasurable life but a meaningful one due to lots of family mishaps - swollen eye from an allergic reaction, 6-year-old's broken ankle, house expenses, locking keys in the car, etc. Yes, these are small crosses, but they can add up and feel pretty heavy. Yet, I'm reminded that what Christ gave us on Good Friday was not freedom from suffering or small inconveniences but freedom IN them.
By the way, I LOVE your book. Thank you for finding God in everything from The Simpsons to the saints.
God bless!
Amen!
Also, thank you, Kate, for your compliment! And for the comment you made on the book order ... it made me very happy. :-)
