Well said: More from St. Teresa of Avila

Another excerpt from a little daily wisdom, that daily reader I am finding so helpful.
When I repeat the Lord's Prayer, my love causes me to desire to understand who this Father is and who this Master is who taught us the prayer.

You are wrong if you think you already know who he is.

[...]

Imagine that Jesus taught this prayer to each one of us individually and that he continues to explain it to us. He is always close enough to hear us. To pray the Lord's Prayer well, there is one thing you need to do. Stay near the side of the Master who taught it to you.

"Ah!" you say. "This is meditation. I am not able to meditate. I have no desire to meditate. I am content to pray this prayer out loud." Maybe you are one of those impatient people who doesn't like to be bothered. Yes, it is a little troublesome to begin to consider Jesus when you pray the Lord's Prayer, until it becomes habitual. You are right. This step turns vocal prayer into mental prayer. In my view, it is faithful vocal prayer. We need to think about who is listening.
