Blogging Around: The "I'm Waiting at Home for the Dishwasher Repair Guy" Edition

These are by no means all the links I'd love to share, but a few is better than none.
  • 7 Quick Takes: In Poor Taste: Simcha Fischer talks about what she hates (Footsteps) and what she loves (Spaghetti-Os) that others don't. Did I say hilariously? Yes, she does it hilariously.
  • Did you know that there are awards for book trailers? I didn't either, but Black Gate tells us about those and much more. Frankly, the idea of a book trailer still amuses me.
  • Jane Austen's Card Game: yes, this is for reals. From Emma. Thanks to that indefatigable game meister, Thomas L. McDonald, natch.
  • An Affront to the Eyes of God: I do wish that Roger Ebert would not take his aunt's word from long ago for the way that the Catholic Church treats women, mix it with a few things he has garnered from newspapers, and then throw it out there as fact for what the Church teaches. *sigh* That said, his conclusions are perhaps a guide to us as to how even smart people create a mish-mash of information into "what everyone knows" and then perpetuate it. I love Ebert's writing, sometimes agreeing with him and sometimes not ... but this seemed sloppier than most of his pieces. Of course, they are just musings in his journal and not a news story. And he does seem to have a complicated history with the Catholic Church.
  • Edmonia Lewis: Artist, Woman of Color, Catholic: a fascinating story about a 19th century artist's unlikely journey from Pat McNamara at Patheos.
  • Religious Beliefs and F/SF: Jeff Miller at The Curt Jester muses upon how science fiction and fantasy enhanced his belief, sparked by sf writer (and Catholic) Mike Flynn's post about a panel debating that issue. Fascinating and the sorts of insights that Jeff doesn't give us often enough.
And the guy has come, given advice, and gone. So I must get back to work!

3 brave one(s) among us:

So jealous I didn't think of this blog post title. I've done a couple of "waiting around for the dishwasher guy" sessions in the past month, for a dishwasher less than 4 years old and far more expensive than any previously owned. We're now waiting on the Lowe's extended warranty "problems resolution department" because the broken $40 capacitor is apparently not gonna be shipped in the foreseeable future. All this dishwasher angst and not even a blog post to show for it. :)

Hey, thanks for the linkage, blogmother. I've got mine very own domain now!

Sandy ... ours is also about 4 years old! A sad commentary on the standards for workmanship and manufacturing, I'd say. :-)
