And Now a Word From Our Sponsor

From my quote journal.
How long, O Lord? I cry for help but you do not listen! ...

Then the Lord answered me and said: Write down the vision clearly upon the tablets, so that one can read it readily. For the vision still has its time, presses on to fulfillment, and will not disappoint; if it delays, wait for it, it will surely come, it will not be late.
Habakkuk 1:2, 2:2-3

Great quote from Habakkuk.

That's one scary book, though. The prophet cries out to God to right the wrongs of the people and God says, "Yes, I will -- I'm sending the badass Assyrians to whup you upside the head."

And then there are those terrifying verses that are part of Lauds every Friday morning:

"For the fig tree doth no blossom, and there is no fruit on the vines,
The yield of the olive-tree faileth, and the fields produce no food.
The sheep are wanting in the the fold, and there is no herd in the stalls.
Yet I will be glad in the Lord, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation."

Whenever I get to that last verse, I pray earnestly to God that I might really mean it someday.

Lord have mercy on me, a sinner.

That is good quote that I will add to my own journal.

I've been spending more time on the Old Testament lately. I find such benefit from the Gospels that I don't always get "over" there.

I was struck by this quote from Isaiah that seems to go hand in had with Habakkuk.

"I was ready to respond to those who asked Me not, to be found by those who sought Me not. I said: Here I am! Here I am! To a nation that did not call My Name" (Is 65:1).
Just a good reminder for Lent.
