The party was wonderful. My brother and sister outdid themselves. The food was wonderful, the drink plentiful, and the guest of honor was very happy as his friends and well-wishers showed up to talk and be with him. He looked super sharp in his "Italian mafia" outfit of white jacket, black shirt, and black trousers. My mother looked elegant and sophisticated ... and also happy to see her husband enjoying his party so very much.
On a personal front, I had a brief heart-to-heart with Dad which included the subject dearest to my heart as well as the subject of many prayer requests ... that he take God's hand when he dies and goes with Him. My father said, "I know there is a God" and later on, "I will!" What a happy, happy morning that made it.
As well, after my brother and sister left later in the evening to go listen to a friend's band play, Mom and I sat talking of many things ... not cabbages and kings, but of the good day, my father's happiness, of good and evil, of Heaven and miracles. I do not think that she really can be called an atheist any longer. Perhaps more of an agnostic, a seeker of truth who is open to accepting that truth can be found in places that cannot be measured.
None of that would have been possible, I think, without the terrible and stressful chain of events that led us to this day. God works in strange and unfathomable ways which are a wonderment to watch unfold, when we are granted that privilege.
Thank you God for my good day, for answers to fervent prayers, for love found among family and friends, and for the love you shower upon us for the taking if we only are open to it.
As a side note ... I am going home! Woohoo! Two weeks and two days. This is the longest I've been away from Tom since we married. I cannot wait to get home again.
